Use E10 fuel

Is the new E10 fuel suitable for my Yamaha?

As of October 1 2019, the fuel labels have been adjusted at all Dutch gas stations in accordance with European regulations. For example, the well-known Euro95 has been replaced by E10 which contains a maximum of 10% ethanol (formerly 5%).

Is the new E10 fuel suitable for my Yamaha?

  • Yes * for Yamaha motorcycles (incl. Mopeds and ATV) built after 1990;
  • Yes * for Yamaha outboard engines (incl. Waverunners) built after 2003.

* The E10 gasoline contains 10% ethanol addition and has a number of negative side effects, which requires extra attention.

  • Aging of gasoline; the ethanol addition ensures that the quality deteriorates quickly, after a few months the gasoline is no longer usable.
  • Pollution of the fuel system; ethanol is a solvent which can attack certain material compositions (rubber and plastics) of the fuel system, causing contamination of the fuel system. This contamination can cause blockage of the fuel pump, carburetor or injector.
  • Making gasoline porous; due to the strong dissolving action of ethanol, gasoline hoses can become porous and leak themselves.
  • Attracting water; ethanol will attract moisture / water, which reduces the quality of the gasoline and can lead to rust formation.

To compensate for the negative side effects of ethanol, Yamaha recommends the use of Yamalube additives.

By using the Yamalube “Fuel System Cleaner” additive in the summer, the fuel system of your Yamaha will remain in top condition.

Using the Yamalube "Fuel Stabilizer & Conditioner" additive in the winter will not only keep your Yamaha's fuel system in top condition, it also ensures that the gasoline retains its quality.

If you own a Yamaha motorcycle built before 1990 or a Yamaha outboard motor built before 2003, you are dependent on the very limited supply of ethanol-free petrol (Super Plus) in the form of, for example, Shell V-Power, BP-Ultimate, Esso Synergy Supreme+ and Total Excellium.
