Introducing Yamaha's exciting new 350 hp V6: Meeting the demand for horsepower diversity

Yamaha Motor Europe today announces a range of innovations to delight marine customers, including headlined by an all-new 350 hp V6 outboard engine, and further upgrades to the Helm Master® EX system.

  • An exciting newly designed 350 hp V6 joins the Yamaha outboard family to meet customer demands for power diversity, top performance and reliability.
  • Helm Master® EX with thruster coupling expands to single, quadruple and quintuple applications and now supports both Vetus and Sleipner (Side-Power thrusters).

Amsterdam, Netherlands: Yamaha Motor Europe, a world-renowned leader in outboard motors and boat systems innovations, is pleased to announce the highly anticipated launch of its new outboard motor and boat control system improvements.

Two key trends have defined Yamaha's priorities for 2024 innovations in outboard motors and boat systems. The first is the growing awareness among boat builders that outboard motors are a truly customizable and versatile choice for powering larger vessels. The second is the increasing sophistication of boat owners, who demand more choices, better technology and more comprehensive system integration for their vessels. As a truly customer-centric brand, Yamaha's priority is to continue to meet the changing needs of boaters.

“In recent years, Yamaha has made great strides from a leading supplier of outboard motors to a true supplier of boat control systems. We have launched many industry-leading innovations during this period, but we are not there yet,” says Fabrice Lacoume, Marine Director at Yamaha Motor Europe. “With this year's lineup, we are delivering an exciting and powerful new outboard that truly reflects the diversity today's boat owner demands, plus a range of more nuanced technical advancements that meet and hopefully exceed the ever-rising expectations of our customers.”

Introduction of the 350 hp V6

The exciting 350 hp V6 is a valuable addition to the V6 range of 225 hp, 250 hp and 300 hp V6 outboards and bridges the power gap between the V6 and V8 (XTO 400 hp V8 & XTO 450 hp V8). Customers will love a V6's higher power and higher torque at lower speeds, which makes for a more responsive, exciting experience while driving the boat.

The new 350 hp V6 is designed with larger intake and exhaust valves than the 300 hp V6 and uses the same diameter electronic throttle valve as the XTO 450 hp V8 to maximize air movement. Better airflow equals more power as the engine's precisely tuned fuel and ignition timing is matched to the driver's throttle demand for responsive performance, while a new, robust crankshaft has a longer stroke, allowing more torque at lower speeds.

From the cylinder heads to the crankcase, Yamaha's new 350 hp V6 is characterized by meticulous engineering. With an impressive 11:1 compression ratio, the new 350 hp V6 expertly controls air movement using custom intake manifolds equipped with 40% larger surge tanks to maximize the amount and timing of air flowing to the intake ports while simultaneously ensure even distribution of air in each cylinder. Identical port and starboard intake manifolds allow ideal placement for the 81mm electronic throttle body, which is 8% larger than the 300hp V6's throttle body and is mid-mounted for smoother airflow and more responsive power.

Larger intake and exhaust valves and Variable Camshaft Timing (VCT) provide a clear airflow advantage for the new Yamaha 350 hp V6. The improved camshaft profile provides higher valve lift for longer opening duration for both intake and exhaust, while the newly designed tappets, made from the same durable material used for XTO 450 hp tappets, create precise valve clearance for powerful combustion.

To take advantage of the increased airflow, a new, robustly designed crankshaft creates a longer stroke for more torque at all speeds. The Yamaha 350 hp V6 is also equipped with iridium spark plugs, prized for their hardness and concentrated, efficient spark, combined with Yamaha's new fuel injection control, which produces longer injector duration than that of the 300 hp V6 for more power.

Improvements to the Helm Master® EX

Yamaha's exclusive, category-defining Helm Master EX® steering rig system makes piloting the boat both easy and enjoyable. Helm Master EX® uses advanced technology to help professionals, enthusiasts and recreationalists sail with confidence and maximize fun on the water for both single and multiple outboards.

For model year 2024, Yamaha is building on the bow thruster system that can be connected to the Yamaha (Helm Master EX®) joystick and variable speed and adding applications for single, quadruple and quintuple outboard motors for larger boats that need extra control. Additionally, Sleipner joins Vetus for this next generation of integrated thrusters as supported supplier brands for this technology.

New for 2024, Yamaha's 704 mechanical control box is now available with a neutral lock feature that allows the outboard to remain in a neutral position while the engine is running. This functionality is perfect for idling on the water or waiting at the dock. The top control box provides easy one-handed throttle control and effortless trim adjustment via a thumb-operated toggle switch in the handle. Cruising has never been easier!
